This is “CBG Classic Master Video Series Vol. 60”.

Back in 1977, someone turned me on to ZZ Top’s Fandango! album. I loved it from first listen. I loved the live side, right from Thunderbird, to Elvis’ Jailhouse Rock (what a kick butt version) to the Backdoor Medley. Then you would flip the album for studio songs and Heard it on the X and Tush ripped it up! We ended up playing that album at many parties and in our cars driving around in high school.

In 1980, ZZ Top played my local Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY and I didn’t end up going. Everybody from the high school bragged about how good the show was. The Deguello album was a great one. Wish I went.

In 1981, Tube Snake Bogie was being played on the radio all the time, but I didn’t go see them then.

In 1983, Eliminator came out and coupled with the videos on MTV of several songs from this album, they went through the roof in popularity. They had furry guitars like furry dice that hung on your car mirror. They moved in tandem, and always had hot chicks in their videos. You could see them now on TV with their perfectly manicured beards. Gimme All Your Lovin’. Sharp Dressed Man. And Legs. All were in the regular rotation on MTV. They hit the big time and only played the major markets now. Still, I didn’t go see them for some stupid reason.

In 1986, ZZ Top toured around my area for the Afterburner album and I wasn’t going to miss them now that I had a real job and $$$. If I only knew they played Montreal in December of 1985, I would have gone on the 2 hour drive from my college to see them. At least Pierre did a fine video of that show. I ended up seeing a few shows on this tour. They were selling out everywhere on that tour. Three nights in Worcester, MA. Three nights in Hartford, CT. In Hartford, CT, I went to one show and I was like 6th row on the floor. At this show, I remember two girls dressed in spandex and tube tops that were on the top of the first level at an entrance tunnel that was positioned between the lower level and upper level. We were sitting on the floor after the warmup band waiting for ZZ to start. Both girls walk over to the railing facing the floor crowd and pull down their tube tops together and start stroking and cupping their tits. The spotlight guys put the lights on them and the whole crowd is going crazy cheering. This went on for like 2 minutes. Finally two cops come up to them from behind and they yank up their tube tops very quickly and the whole crowd booed the cops for stopping them. I think they just let the girls walk away, so that was cool. The peer pressure of the crowd towards the cops might have had something to do with that.

So you think that would be your one moment at a show where you would see some chicks tits like that! Well, not! As ZZ is playing like 7-8 songs into their set, I look to the right, down my aisle. I was in the middle section of the floor in like seat 10 out of 20 seats right in the middle. As I am looking to the right, there was another hot chick with her guy standing on the chairs watching the show. Like all of us were standing on the chairs, some stupid thing that everyone did back then. Well, the guy pulls up his chicks shirt and starts grabbing and massaging his chicks tits completely out in the open. She didn't have a bra on. I am like WTF! She had nice sized boobs and he was just going to town on them as the band was playing and she just held her arms back and pushed her chest out and enjoyed every moment of it. Well, after like a couple minutes of this, I am thinking I am the only one noticing this as most people are looking up at the band playing on stage. Well, not! I turn my head to the left and no shit, the whole row I am in is all guys and all 10 of them have their necks tipped this way and their faces looking directly down my row at this chick being felt up. Right at that moment, I started laughing and acknowledging them with a thumbs up that we were all noticing the same thing and all of us started laughing. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of the 10 heads all stretching to get a vantage point looking down the aisle to see this chicks tits! It was before cell phones. I only ended up audio taping that show. But the memory was for a lifetime! They ended up coming back to the area and playing Philadelphia, PA two nights, Providence, RI two nights, Saratoga, NY two nights, East Rutherford three nights and Nassau Coliseum and New Haven, CT.

In 1991, they came around for the Recycler tour and played two nights in Hartford, Worcester and Madison Square Garden amongst playing one night in several other arenas in the area. We got the Black Crowes as an opening act in our area. That was cool. It was an elaborate show that was modeled after a car junkyard and the props were very cool, in typical ZZ style. Since I never filmed them, I had to try this time and I did in Hartford, CT. I didn't risk filming the Black Crowes because I wanted ZZ Top most. “My Head’s in Mississippi” was the new song on the radio. Loved the laser cowgirl on the ceiling! So Enjoy ZZ Top and their Planet of Women in Hartford, CT! CBG5150 Posted to TTD 2017-06-02
