Alphabet of Pop A to Z Sampler

This is a sample of five songs, each from a different artist, for each letter of the alphabet. I just looked for songs I liked from artists I recognized to make an A-Z tour of artists across different decades, genres, and styles. Please read the filename list to see the actual artists and songs included.

A huge alphabetical collection of pop music was made by an old friend on The Pirate Bay, an uploader by the username towerelect. It was called the Alphabet of Pop, uploaded back in 2007. This was such an AWESOME collection back when it was first seeded, that I decided to post this sampler here.

The original collection was about 60GB, divided into multiple torrents. The uploader was a professional DJ of 50 years, and he was seeding it while on a ship voyage. He would post interesting facts about how his collection came to be, and about the challenges of seeding a torrent while at sea. I liked reading them, and so I wanted to have one place to read them all. Those descriptions are below. While the original collection by towerelect is still posted, please note that most of it is not seeded anymore. Also, note that events and statements below have long since passed over a decade ago.

Happy listening to this sampler!

Original Descriptions for the Alphabet of Pop by towerelect:
------------------------------------------------------------

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Alphabet of Pop part 1 of 26 - The letter A
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The Alphabet of Pop is an MP3 collection built up over 50 years, from Dusty old 78 RPM fragile objects, Open Reel Tape to Compact Discs. If the Song was a popular hit between 1908 and 2003 the chances are high it will be in this collection, lovingly brought to you in a series of Bit Torrent downloads, ONE for each letter of the Alphabet. I have NOT compressed the files so you can read each item, file name by file name.

Most are sampled at 192Kbs or faster. Some are very, very rare and based on the UK Hit Parade as published by the BBC over the years.

Rest Assured the TAGS are just fine, for this is a working collection used every week on a request based Discotheque show. There may be the odd Karaoke song sneak in from time to time, but I have filtered most out, and not to worry, you will have the original hit version in this collection anyway! Enjoy this and please keep it seeded, for I can NOT release the next letter of the Alphabet, until I am happy this one will live on, happily seeded so I can move on to the next release.

The Author of this lot started as a DJ back in 1967 but had a sizeable music collection even before then. He still does a weekly request based show to this very day. From the Dark Days of the Two World Wars you can relive the jitterbug and roaring twenties, move on to the Birth of Rock and Roll and the Fabulous Fifties, then enjoy the Sensational Sixties, the Glam Rock and the Woodstock Era of the Seventies, before getting almost up to date with the electronic of the Eighties and Ninety\'s before moving on briefly to the Noughties.... ;-)

YOU MUST SEED AT LEAST the same bit count you downloaded, that is a Ratio of ONE TO ONE. IF YOU love music then keep it seeded, even if you can only give it 10Kb per second that is better than nothing and these legends of POP and Rock will live on.

   ENJOY!!!

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
Alphabet of Pop Part 2 of 26 The Letter B
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

The Alphabet of Pop is an MP3 collection built up over 50 years, from the Dusty old 78 RPM platters that broke when you dropped them, to Compact Discs. I have no hesitation in sharing them, for most have been purchased 4 times over as formats moved on from 78 to Micro groove, from Reel to Reel and Cassette Tapes to Mini Disc and CD..

The Music industry has made there money off of this lot a zillion times over, so as far as I am concerned this lot is public property.

If the Song was a popular hit between 1908 and 2003 the chances are high it will be in this collection, lovingly brought to you in a series of Bit Torrent downloads, ONE for each letter of the Alphabet.

Most are sampled at 192Kbs or faster. Some are very, very rare and based on the UK Hit Parade as published by the BBC over the years. There may be the odd duplicate or Karaoke version sneak in, sorry about that.

Rest Assured the TAGS are just fine, for this is a working collection used every week on a request based Discotheque show. Enjoy this and please keep it active, for I can NOT release the next letter of the Alphabet, until I am happy this one will live on, happily seeded without my help.

The Author of this lot started as a DJ back in 1967 but had a sizeable music collection even before then. He still does a weekly request based Audio/Karaoke and Video show using the fantastic OtsAV software (https://www.otsav.com) to this very day.

Never in his wildest dreams did the Author think he could get his entire collection on one single 1.5 TB hard drive and turn up to a gig with little more than a sound system and a laptop computer! At one time the record collection took up so much room many venue's were just too small for the music to fit! This Audio only collection runs to over 60Gb so time to save up for that new Hard drive if you want it all.

From the Dark Days of the Two World Wars you can relive the jitterbug and roaring twenties, move on to the Birth of Rock and Roll and the Fabulous Fifties, then enjoy the Sensational Sixties & the Offshore Pirate Radio Era, the Glam Rock and the Woodstock Aura of the Seventies, before getting almost up to date with the electronic and Techno of the Eighties and Ninety's before moving on briefly to the Noughties.... ;-) The first commercial RAP record is in here someplace, Yes RAP and Hip Hop is OVER 30 years OLD! (Time to move on Folks?)

YOU MUST SEED AT LEAST the same bit count you downloaded, that is a Ratio of ONE TO ONE. IF YOU love music then keep it seeded, even if you can only give it 10Kb per second of your total upload speed that is better than nothing and these legends of POP and Rock will live on for others like us to ENJOY!!! Let the music fill you're soul, for it truly makes the World a better place. Next part out soon. (Just as soon as this letter is well seeded, and the torrent can live without me I will get the next part online for you all)

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Alphabet of Pop Part 3 of 26 The Letter C
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

The Alphabet of Pop is an MP3 collection built up over 50 years, from the Dusty old 78 RPM platters that broke when you dropped them, to Compact Discs. I have no hesitation in sharing them, for most have been purchased 4 times over as formats moved on from 78 to Micro groove, from Reel to Reel and Cassette Tapes to Mini Disc, CD and Now DVD and Blue Ray..

The Music industry has made there money off of this lot a zillion times over, so as far as I am concerned this lot is public Domain.

If the Song was a popular hit between 1908 and 2003 the chances are high it will be in this collection, lovingly brought to you in a series of Bit Torrent downloads, ONE for each letter of the Alphabet.

Most are sampled at 192Kbs or faster. Some are very, very rare indeed and based on the UK Hit Parade as published by the BBC over the years. There may be the odd duplicate or Karaoke version sneak in, sorry about that.

Rest Assured the MP3 TAGS are just fine, for this is a working collection used every week on a request based Discotheque show. Enjoy this and please keep it active, for I can NOT release the next letter of the Alphabet, until I am happy this one will live on, seeded without my help. I only have 140Kb upload speed, so can fast seed just one torrent at a time.

The Author of this lot started as a DJ back in 1967 but had a sizeable music collection even before then. He still does a weekly request based Audio/Karaoke and Video show using the fantastic OtsAV software (https://www.otsav.com) to this very day.

Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine back in the 70's he could get his entire collection on one single 1.5 TB hard drive and turn up to a gig with little more than a sound system a few LED lights and a laptop computer! At one time the record collection took up so much room many venue's were just too small for the music to fit!

From the Difficult Days of the Two World Wars you can relive the jitterbug and roaring twenties, the dark days of the 30's when only the Music and Dance Halls kept you going before you move on to the Birth of Rock and Roll and the Fabulous Fifties, then enjoy the Sensational Sixties & the Offshore Pirate Radio Era, the Glam Rock and the Woodstock Aura of the Seventies, before getting almost up to date with the electronic and Techno of the Eighties and Ninety's, moving on briefly to the Noughties.... The first commercial RAP record is in here someplace, Yes RAP and Hip Hop is OVER 30 years OLD! (Time to move on Folks? I am SO fed up of Hip Hop and Rap) Most major film sound track hit songs are in this collection as well.

The Author was also a Station Manager of a small Community Radio Project in the remote NE of Scotland and Jingles from that station are included, so if you fancy your hand as a DJ, you will have a collection in a Box so to speak by the time you download this lot. Sadly I have to go back to Work on a 3 month tour in a weeks time and no more new letters will be posted after the 16th of Oct., so there will be a pause of 3 months before the next letter is seeded, but do not worry, you will get the rest in 2008. All will come to those who wait!

DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Alphabet of Pop Part 4 of 26 - Letter D
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

OK Gang, here we go again. Thank you for staying with this, and OF COURSE SEEDING the first 3 parts which I am very pleased to see are going great now on there own without my help.

I have to go away to sea and work until February 2008 so this may be the last letter untill then as I leave next week and at Sea may not have any access to the internet, time will tell. Anyway download the torrent and this is what you will get - all high quality MP3's, many at 192 or better sample speeds.

I am using Micro Torrent to seed this by way of a test, as offshore if I have access to the NET that may be the only clent my work PC can handle, and as I will be on a Satellite link, even then that could be a little bridge too far. As allways, ENJOY the MUSIC, and may I take the time now to wish you all a very MERRY Christmas and a HAPPY Hogminay (New Year). Happy file sharing, ... and do that good!~

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Alphabet of Pop Part 5 of 26 The Letter E
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

OK Gang, You will notice a bonus MP3 in this download, it is from Lesley Feist, a great Canadian Singer Songwriter who\\\\\\\'s 2006 song 1234 is climbing the UK and Canadian Pop Charts as I type this, the Video is (like the song) a pure breath of fresh air in this overcomplex and overproduced modern musical World of ours. Please help me get this song to number one in your Country real soon!

the Next Letter is only possible due to you all helping to keep alive the first 4 which are all out there now being well seeded and I thank you for that. I have to go away and join my next Ship in Japan on the 16th of October and very much doubt I will be able to seed any more letters until my return some 3 months later, when on my next shore leave in February of 2008 promise to give you all the remaining letters of the Alphabet of Pop.

Have yourself a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year until then when we will continue with the letter F and onwards until a few months later you have the letters X, Y and Z and a 63Gb collection of Popular Music through the ages to share with the World. Enjoy this, the letter E and thanks again for keeping the letters A to E alive during my next tour of Duty as an officer in the Merchant Marine.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Alphabet of Pop Part 12 of 26 The Letter L
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

A nice sized 2Gb of high sample speed MP3's for you featuring Artist's beginning with the letter L. How is your hard drive free space holding out, even after you delete the stuff you do not want, you are not even half way there yet!

The original seeder of this lot has been buying records and then CD's since the 1950's. Look out - for a future number one hit could be lurking inside of this download.

From Larry Williams, Led Zepplin to Lulu

Remember to give back what you take on fileshare and SEED SEED SEED, for that is the least you can do.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Alphabet of Pop Part 13 of 26 The Letter M
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

You have seen the film, Donkey turns to Shrek and asks \"Are we there yet?\"

\"No Donkey - not even half way\" is the reply I give to you all, but in one more download...

And the Letter M presents:

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Alphabet of Pop Part 14 of 26 The Letter N
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Well you have past the half way mark. Well Done, and thank you for all the seeding you have done getting here so others can follow. This is a working collection originally the TW Discotheque Aberdeen, then used on North East Community Radio, then Rigmar Radio.

If you are under the age of 50 many titles will not be known to you, but check each track before you delete, for there are many original Hits in this lot, who knock spots off the more modern re makes.

The collection continues with artist's in the Letter N:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Alphabet of Pop Part 15 of 26 Thel Letter O
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Well not too many Artists in the Letter O so a nice quick download and
an easy seed for us all with this batch. Note this text file is only
a guide and the actual contents of the torrent may contain additional
Karaoke tracks which my filter failed to catch, you will just have to
come visit my Disco to see the Video portions of the Karaoke songs. Hopefully I
have caught all the Video files, or it would be interesting to see
how they turn out file typed as an MP3 song :-)

Anyway enjoy this latest batch, the letter P is massive and will be
along real soon Pop Pickers!

Don\'t forget to check out the BEST DJ SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD EVER...
OtsAV at https://www.otsav.com You will find some of there sample
jingles in this lot someplace, but download the demo and start having FUN with Music
again. All this lot have been converted to MP3 from my Ots

15,000 tracks or you wish to seamlessly mix Karaoke and Pop Video\'s
in with your Audio Only hit tunes, then OtsAV is the ONLY GAME IN TOWN. I now

PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Alphabet of Pop Part 16 of 26 The Letter P
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Well the letter P contains one or two surprises, from 50's classics by the Patters Patsy Cline you move on to 60's standards from the likes of PJ Proby and the Paper Dolls, to 70's one hit wonders Pussyfoot, the Piglets, Paper Lace and the Partridge Family.

Watch out for one of Rod Stewart's very first records as lead singer for a group called Python Lee Jackson as well as a Guy who Annie Lennox and myself knew well as former front man for Aberdeenshire\\\\\\\'s Gully Foyle, Jim Diamond and his only number one hit \\\\\\\"Don\\\\\\\'t Let me Down\\\\\\\".

There is even a token Gospel record in here someplace by Parchment who made the UK top 40.

I am on a ship at Sea so remember once I have seeded this, it is up to those who have it to keep this letter going while I move on to the lettets Q and R which will be done as one download shortly.

QRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQR
Alphabet of Pop Parts 16 & 17, The Letter\'s Q & R
QRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQRQR

No Track list for this one, as my email has fallen over. You have to remember I am on a Ship at Sea hading south to Australia as I seed this
via the Vsat (TeleNor) network. It is for this reason your help in seeding is so vital.

But Queen and Rod Steward fans will be well pleased with the letters Q and R which has everything from the wholesome image of the 1950's
piano playing Russ Conway, to the Beautiful whip cracking Ruslana, winning the Eurovision Song contest in the Noughties with "Wild Dances"

I will update The Pirate Bay info file as soon as my link comes back with the track listing of this torrent. Look out for the Oldest recording
in my collection, lovingly restored by the good old BBC, Reginauld Dixon's Instrumental Music Hall hit, "I do Love to Be Beside The Seaside"
recorded on Wax back in 1912.

Enjoy.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Alphabet of Pop Part 19 of 26 The Letter S
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

This is a whopper of a letter, from the Disco Hits of S Club 7 and silky smooth Sade, One hit wonders from Sailor, The Sanford Townsend Band you
quickly move on to major international Superstars such as Shania Twain, who hails by the way from the mining town of Timmins in Ontario canada and
Shirley Bassey or Simon and Garfunkle.

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Alphabet of Pop Part 20 of 26 - Letter T
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Sorry but a recent purchase got in here without me editing the tags and the dreaded word 'The' appears in front of various Artist's and to make matters worse, they are only sampled at 128Kbs, not good enough for commercial discotheque use IMO.

I very much doubt I added them to the collection as I know better and it may of been one of my young DJ's having a Brain Freeze... who knows.

Further more most are in the [other parts of the] collection already which makes matters even WORSE! Oh well not a lot I can do deep sea on board this ship heading back to Japan, so you will have to sort it out when you download the torrent. Everything here from T'Pau and TRex to amazing sounds from Tommy Dorsey and the Orchestra and the Big Band Era when Men were Men and Woman were pleased to see them!

Watch out as well for some good old fashioned Country and Western music You all! AND PLEASE keep seeding the letters as you move on, for without seeds this series will DIE and 64 Gb [size of entire collection] of music mostly unavailable on the Web will die with it until I get home and have the time and bandwidth to put all the letters back on line myself again.

Oh and by the way, for those who have been with me from the start almost 2 months ago now, WELL DONE, thanks for hanging on in there, not to long to go now you should have the complete RigMar Radio Studio collection well before Christmas and sort it all out into what ever format works for you.

UVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVW
Alphabet of Pop Letters UVWXY and Z - Part 26 of 26
UVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVWXYZUVW

Sorry about the delay in seeding the last letters, it was not to get you going - simply very bad weather we were caught in the tail end of a Typhoon which had been beating up the Phillipine Islands a few days ago and turned round on us, so we lost the satellite connection and the internet.

So a real mixed bag this last lot, from the dramatic techno beat of U96 and the classic Das Boot and Ireland's U2 to Val Doonican or the Who. Some stuff waiting for indexing too I see, Oops sorry about that but when I digitise a CD often the data does not come over due to the broad nature of the collection and I have to index each track by hand from the sleeve notes so the MP3 and of course the OtsAV tags are correct for Discotheque use.

So once this lot is well seeded I am going to drop out for a bit and ALL the letters will be left on there own for a few months until I get Shore leave, then I will re seed any letters with peers but no seeds, so it is UP TO YOU to keep as many (or few) letters seeded as your available bandwidth allows. IF YOU ARE GOING AWAY for Christmas and the New Year why not seed a few letters while no one is using your bandwidth at home? Just an idea to help others share the music, for a lot of the tracks as you have found out by now are difficult to source on the Net.

Anyway I hope you get a lot of fun and pleasure listening to this lot, if you are a budding song writer, pay close attention to the big band era stuff of the 20's 30's and 40's, for there are a LOT of inspiration lyric wise in those old 78 rpm classics that could inspire you to write the next million selling hit soon!

ENJOY and keep file shareing Don't let the nasty people in the RIAA win this one, all this lot has been bought and paid for many times and more, many of the copyright holders are dead, or copyright has expired, so WELL DONE The Pirate Bay for being the best tracker in the universe for us all
